Dark chocolate lowers blood pressure, research finds: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"
I'm sure that most of us are now aware of the benefits of dark chocolate in lowering blood pressure. How does this work? Chemicals in dark chocolate called flavonols help produce nitric oxide which causes vasodilation of blood vessels. A relaxed blood vessel has better blood flow. Theoretically this would also help men who have ED.
This article does not say how much dark chocolate must be consumed, but that consumption can lead to as much as a 5mm Hg systolic decrease leading to "and could theoretically reduce the risk of a cardiovascular event by about 20% over five years."
Textbook normal BP is 120/80. Now that has changed. The new norm is less than 120/80. 120/80 is now considered to be pre-hypertensive.
