Long-Term Use of Osteoporosis Drug May Cause Bone Fractures

Patients taking Fosamax, a drug that was designed to help protect against osteoporosis, is increasingly being linked with bone fractures. There are better ways to build bone strength. Bone is not static like stone as some people think. Bone is constantly breaking down and remodeling. There are specific bone cells which perform each of these functions.

Bone can be weakened in both men and women due to changing hormone levels . Bone can also be weakened in people who have a low body pH, or in other words have systemic acidity. People may have low pH due to poor dietary choices, stress, environmental toxins, and inactivity. Colas will pull calcium from the bone as will all high acid foods like excessive meat, grains, and sugars.

To build healthy bone most people think calcium, especially from dairy. This is not your best choice and especially not from Tums, an antacid that bills itself as a calcium supplement. Calcium is best absorbed in the stomach, which has a normal pH of about 2. That's VERY acid! An anti-acid like Tums is exactly the opposite of what's needed for calcium absorption.

Your best bet to maintain healthy bone is to start off with a good bone mass in adulthood. Do this by weight bearing exercise, even walking. Sleep 7 hours a night. Modify your stress. Eliminate Colas and go easy on your consumption of high acid foods. According to Dr. Balch's Prescription for Nutritional Healing eat plenty of dark leafy greens, broccoli, chestnuts, dandelion greens, flounder, hazelnuts, kale, kelp, molasses, oats, salmon, sardines, sesame seeds, tahini, turnip greens, and wheat germ.  Be sure to include food high in sulfur content like garlic, onions, and eggs.

Make sure to take a quality supplement with a wide array of mineral, not just calcium.  Your supplement/s should include calcium, magnesium, boron, silica, B Vitamins and Vitamins A, C, D, E, K.

Many calcium supplements are nothing more than chalk also known as calcium carbonate (found in Tums along with neurotoxic aluminum).  Stay away from this!  I prescribe calcium citrate for patients.  One excellent product I use is Osteo-B-Plus from Biotics Labs.  This is only available by prescription.

This is great stuff! With ADHD patients it's important to check both sides of the brain for function. Since there are two cerebral hemispheres they may be functioning on different levels. If medications are given it will bring total brain activity down. The problem is that it will not only bring down the problem side but it will also bring down the good side. The idea is to increase function of the problem side while maintaining the level of function of the good side. Brilliant! This can be down with exercises specific to the problem side of the brain.

Tremors disappeared after a visit to the chiropractor

NBC NEWS CHANNEL 30 - Another life changed! 3 year-old Tray Wainman was suffering from daily muscle twitches and tremors. The medical doctors have not medical explanation what was wrong with Tray. After a visit to the chiropractor the tremors disappeared. Chiropractors ...work with the nervous system. Chiropractic is based on the premise that the body is a
self-healing and self-regulating organism and the nervous system is the master control of all the systems in the human body. Anything that interferes with normal nerve function, like a subluxation, is bad.

Anything that reduces disturbance in the nervous system, like an adjustment, is good. Chiropractors are the only ones qualified to locate and correct nerve interference.

HOSPITAL acronym for 8 inefficiencies in Healthcare

I created this acronym to help folks in the Healthcare environment recall the 8 inefficiencies that exist in all medical facilities. There are a few medical facilities, such as Miami Children’s Hospital and Baystate Medical that are using this … I’m wondering which others are also using.

We briefly review this during our free Online Healthcare White Belt Program … at www.Lean2020.com I thought I’d share here as well.

H = Halting or waiting. Patients wait in “Waiting Rooms”, doctors and nurses wait for test results, organizations wait for payments … the list goes on.
O = Overproducing. Data is entered in multiple locations/databases, extra tests are performed (defensive medicine), and patient information is written in multiple places.
S = Slips or errors. Miscommunication, medicine errors, data loss/errors
P = Processes which are non value added. Redoing X-Rays or Lab tests, Triage, writing prescriptions.
I = Inventory. Too much inventory is costly, running out causes other issues, too many patients is also a form of inventory.
T = Transportation. Movement of patients from one area to another, chasing approvals (transportation of a requisition), data hand-offs.
A = Action or motion. The physical movement within an area (not moving a patient or thing through the process) … going to make a copy, searching for a patient’s chart, locating supplies or equipment (bed linen, pill crushers, etc.)
L = Lack of employee engagement. Failure to engage the workforce in solving problems. Not educating, including on teams, or soliciting ideas to address issues.

Lean is about identifying, then reducing/eliminating these inefficiencies. I’d welcome feedback and thoughts about this. I’m certain that this group could list many more examples of each of these … finding the issues is a big part of resolving them.

Gut health linked to excessive weight gain during pregnancy

People still don't know what probiotics are. We all know about antibiotics though. So what do those words mean? "Pro" means "for" or "in favor of" and "biotics" comes from "bios" meaning life. Of course we know what "anti" means. We usually take antibiotics when we have a bacterial infection, hence they are against life in order to kill the offending bacteria. On the other side of the coin we have our probiotics, something in favor of life. So what are probiotics? They are essentially "good bugs" that colonize your digestive tract and they're critically important to your health!

About 80% of the immune system is located in the GI tract! Did you know that? Probiotics play a huge role in immunity and detoxification of the body. They can be easily depleted due to taking antibiotics, drinking chlorinated water, stress, poor sleep and dietary habits, and environmental toxins.

Most people today must be on a good probiotic formula in order to recolonize the gut.

In this study pregnant women with good levels of beneficial probiotics gained less weight than those who did not. Those who gained more weight during pregnancy had higher levels of the E. coli, a bacteria abundantly present in feces.

Ritalin Boosts Learning By Increasing Brain Plasticity

Here's an interesting piece of research which seems to fly in the face of all the bad press this drug has received. Increasing brain plasticity is a great goal. Even though Ritalin seemed to help in that regard there are still well known unwanted side effects. Brain plasticity can also be increased by specific exercises and nutrients.

Low levels of vitamin D linked to muscle fat, decreased strength in young people

59% of study subjects were deficient in Vitamin D, which functions more like a hormone than a vitamin. A Vitamin D insufficiency is linked to many diseases. Here is another good reason to get tested for your Vitamin D levels and then do something about it if you find that it's low. The best way to increase your Vitamin D levels is to get some daily sunshine.

A Common Herbicide Turns Some Male Frogs into Females: Scientific American

A Common Herbicide Turns Some Male Frogs into Females: Scientific American

This is very much a human problem. Men and boys are increasingly suffering the effects of estrogenization. Male fertility is declining. 100% of the human population is affected by endogenous toxins. Plastics and a pharmaceutical soup are in our water supplies. The air and soil are also dumped on with hundreds of thousands of tons of chemicals and pollutants every year. The human body often has no way to break these toxins down so they either circulate perpetually or get stuffed in joints and fatty tissue. Think brain problems today. Think about the rise in brain related diseases and breast cancer, both largely fatty tissue. Think cancers and auto-immune diseases.

It is imperative for everyone of us to do whatever we can to detox. Avoid chemicals as best as possible. Look into a detox diet and nutrients.
