Even When The Body Starves, The Brain Grows

Even When The Body Starves, The Brain Grows

Look First to the Spine

Claudius Galen (130-202 AD) discovered the relationship between the nervous system of the spine and healing. He wrote, "Look to the nervous system as the key to maximum health." He earned the title 'Prince of Physicians' when he relieved the paralysis of the right hand of Eudemas (a prominent Roman scholar) by careful manipulation of his neck.

Herodotus gained fame curing diseases by correcting spinal abnormalities through therapeutic exercises. Aristotle was critical of Herodotus' tonic-free approach because, "he made old men young and thus prolonged their lives too greatly."
Socrates (469-399 BC) advised, "If you would seek health, look first to the spine."

Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine (460-370 BC), described manipulative procedures in his monumental work known as the Corpus Hippocrateum. He wrote, "Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases."

Healing and the Mind

The worst thing you can do to recover from illness is to dwell upon it.  To ponder, "Perhaps I would be better off with this remedy or with that: perhaps I should read up on what happens to people with this sort of thing: perhaps my doctor doesn't know what he's talking about and I'm going to get worse instead of better: perhaps..."

Find a good, caring doctor and follow his advice.  Remove your mind from the illness and trust in the One Healer of all creatures, that He will send His healing energy through this doctor.  Be confident you will be healed.

And then let your mind rest on good and healthy thoughts that have direction and purpose to them.

Neurotoxicity

Neurotoxicity is defined as the capacity of chemical, biological, or physical agents in your environment to cause abnormal changes in the nervous system.  It is well recognized that exposure to toxic chemicals in the environment can cause neurological and psychiatric illnesses.  We use the term environmental neurotoxicity to refer broadly to adverse neurological response to a wide variety of substances that cause injury to the brain including diet, alcohol, tobaccos, drugs, and other toxic substances in the air, water, and soil.  About 70,000 chemicals are in the environment.  Of these, only a handful have been evaluated thoroughly for neurotoxicity.  The picture becomes even more frightening when we consider that decades can pass between exposure to a chemical and symptoms.  This is called latent toxicity.  These chemicals saturate and reside in your fat cells in your abdomen, breast, buttocks, and the sheaths around your nerves.  These toxins gradually leach out into the system.  Many times when you begin to lose weight we find cases of neurotoxicity.

Many of us are exposed to toxic chemicals in the environment.  It has been suggested that many signs of sub-clinical toxicity are more common than we think.

These are the common signs of neurotoxicity:

  • Weakness
  • Insomnia
  • Visual disorders
  • Confusion
  • Heart symptoms like palpitations & arrhythmia
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Tension
  • Nerve disorders, i.e. Parkinson’s
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Chronic pain
  • Poor memory
  • Depression
  • Nervousness
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Skin inflammation

There are five major environmental toxins:
  • Mercury
  • Lead
  • Cadmium
  • Arsenic
  • Aluminum

At the Mt Sinai School of Medicine in NYC volunteers were tested for the presence of 210 chemicals commonly found in consumer products and industrial pollutants in the NY tri-state area.  Tests on blood and urine detected on average 91 industrial compounds, pollutants, and chemicals in New Yorkers.

There is no way to avoid these chemicals.  This is due to where we live.  We must make sure through nutrition, diet, exercise, and any other method.  We must make our system that detoxifies these toxins efficient in clearing these from our body since we can’t avoid them entering.

Glutathione clears these xenobiotics, lipoic acid repairs neurons and neuronal membranes, and omega 3 oils repair cell membranes.

It is imperative for us to take control of our health because no else is going to do it for us.  There are increasingly more and more toxins and chemicals being added to the environment annually.  We only have one liver to detoxify us and it may have difficulty in doing its job.  We must support it with lots of fresh clean water every day and lots of fruits and vegetables, especially cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, kale, collards, etc.

Urinary Tract Infection

1 in 5 women will have at least one UTI in her lifetime and many others repeatedly, according to the National Kidney Foundation. UTIs are responsible for 10 million doctor visits per year and they are mainly caused by 2 types of bacteria. Women are more susceptible than men, but anyone with diabetes, kidney stones, or an enlarged prostate can be susceptible

To Reduce Your Risk
  • Drink plenty of fluids (2-3 liters water per day_
  • 10 oz of cranberry juice per day (no sugar varieties)
  • urinate when you feel the urge
  • wipe from front to back
  • cleanse the genital area every day especially before and after sex
  • D-Mannose, a non-digestible sugar which enters the bladder and attracts bacteria clinging to the bladder walls.  They are urinated out thereby eliminating the need for anti-biotics.

10 Reasons Parents Take Healthy Children To Chiropractors | HealthyFamilies Magazine

"Some adults may wonder why more and more children are starting to see chiropractors. That’s a good question and the answer is simple: whether we have a large spine or a tiny little spine, if that spine is creating nerve distress then our magnificent bodies cannot operate smoothly…

The nervous system is the ‘Master Controller’

The nervous system is the master controller of our body and if its communication channels become fuzzy, distorted or damaged then we experience all sorts of communication errors. For babies and children, this ineffective communication may play out as colic or irritability, an inability to suckle and breastfeed, poor sleep, developmental delays, digestion issues, asthma, behavioural problems, low energy, inability to concentrate, headaches, etc – the list is endless. In fact, regardless of what the end result or symptom may be, all roads lead back to the nervous system – to the body’s ability to self-regulate and function at a peak level.

While chiropractic may be able to help with a number of health issues, our focus is not treating or curing ailments; our focus is ensuring the nervous system has every opportunity to work efficiently and effectively.
Can you cook at night with the lights out?

For example, imagine your nervous system is like the lighting system in your home. If the lights start to dim, you might not be able to cook dinner very well, you may start banging into furniture, you may trip and hurt yourself, you may feel frightened, etc. Exactly how the dim lights influence you will vary but the issue is still the same – there is a communication problem between the wiring and the intended outcome which needs detecting and fixing.

In the same way, chiropractors spend years studying the nervous system to be able to detect and correct these ‘communication errors’ in the body.

Another question you may ask is…
“How do little kids get nerve irritation?”

Nerve irritations (or vertebral subluxations) occur as a part of normal daily life. They result from physical, chemical and emotional stressors or ‘insults’ to our health, such as bad posture, prolonged postures, sleeping on the tummy, knocks and falls, poor food choices, dehydration, exposure to chemicals and toxins, and stress and anxiety. Even before these lifestyle stressors have an impact, nerve irritation can occur in the uterus from awkward positioning, restriction of movement, and exposure to toxins, and from birth complications such as long labours, very fast labours, or forceps or caesarean delivery.

When we appreciate how important the nervous system is and how easily it can be hindered and impaired it makes sense that all children deserve to have a well-adjusted spine and nervous system … it makes sense that chiropractic is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.

10 reasons parents take their children to see a chiropractor:

*To maximize their child’s neural plasticity (brain and nerve development).
*To enhance their child’s overall health and well being.
*To strengthen immunity and reduce the incidence of colds, ear-aches and general illness.
*To help with colic and Irritable Baby Syndrome.
*To help with asthma, breathing difficulties and allergies.
*To improve spinal posture.
*To improve their child’s ability to concentrate.
*To assist with behavioral disorders and enhance emotional well being.
*To help alleviate digestive problems.
*To assist with bed-wetting and sleep issues.

Your child’s health is their greatest asset.

No Joke: Prunes Beat Psyllium for Relief of Constipation

From the Tufts Health & Nutrition Letter:

Long the object of jokes, prunes now have the last laugh. New research demonstrates that prunes (dried plums) are more effective than psyllium fiber in combating constipation. The randomized control crossover trial with 40 constipated subjects, average age 38, compared 50 grams (about 1.76 ounces) daily of prunes with 11 grams of psyllium (Metamucil) for three weeks each, with a one-week "washout" period in-between. Both dosages supplied the same amount of dietary fiber, 6 grams. The prune regimen improved regularity by 94%, compared to 75% for the psyllium; measures of stool consistency also improved more when subjects were consuming prunes. Since the two regimens delivered identical amounts of fiber, researchers suggested that other nutrients in prunes such as sorbitol and polyphenols might be responsible for the difference. The study was funded by the California Dried Plum Board but conducted independently at the University of Iowa. - Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics

Lead in Kid's Juice Drinks

According to the Environmental Law Foundation, a San Francisco-based environmental nonprofit, which enlisted the aid of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-certified lab in Berkeley, nearly 400 samples from 150 branded products marketed to children, including apple juice, grape juice, packaged pears and peaches (including baby food), and fruit cocktail mixes contained an alarming amount of lead: 125 out of 146 products—or more than 85%—contained enough lead in a single serving to warrant a warning label under California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, better known as Prop. 65.

Exposure to lead is a serious health problem, especially for children's developing nervous systems.  Most known is the exposure to paint chips and from diesel exhaust.  Now we see that lead poisoning is ubiquitous in the environment.

What to do?  Get tested.  Test your home.  Once you know lead levels in your body and home you can chart out an action course.  First is to reduce and eliminate your exposure as much as possible.  Next is to get the poison out of your body.  A good detox program is in order.  I suggest a diet  built upon high protein, minerals, fatty acids and high water intake.  Core nutrients such as a cilantro, chlorella and chlorella growth factor, garlic, fish oil, and a balanced electrolyte drink.  Glutathione may also be very helpful.

A bentonite clay bath for adults and children is also a useful tool. Bentonite clay can be taken internally as well.

Skull, Membrane and Fluid in The Book of Concealment

From my former HS classmate, friend, and Cranial Therapy expert, Stuart Berger:

Although the medical origins of Cranial Therapy go back to the Osteopathic founders- Still and Sutherland, its spiritual and energetic roots can be found in the ancient Jewish mystical writings.

From the introductory remarks of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in the Book of Concealment – Safra Det'Zniuta:
Concealment was installed within concealment and settled in a skull…
Full of crystal dew…
The membrane of air was purified and hidden…
The will of wills is revealed on the forehead….
Supervision from the open eye, that never sleeps and guards constantly…

I Love This Doctor !

And now for something a bit different and on the lighter side:

Q:I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these?  Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.  Ice Cream even better – everything Cow eats in one package!

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the
water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"

A baby monkey was discovered in terrible condition in a NYC basement. After being removed from there, given a proper diet, and allowed to play and be exposed to sunlight, his condition improved dramatically. This serves as a great example and how important these basics are. We tend to to be very disconnected from these basics.

If a monkey can gain good health with eating right and exercising what do you think it would do for you?

Bacteria

There are about 6 million bacteria on every square inch of your skin.

There are more bacteria in your GI tract than there are cells in your body, about 3-4 lbs worth in an average adult.

They are responsible for digestion and absorption, immune function, and production of hormones and vitamins.

When you take an antibiotic you kill lots of these good guys along with the bad guys.  This gives the bad guys a place to fill in the gap and spread.  This sets you up for another round of antibiotics and the vicious cycle begins.  Your immune system will be compromised.  80% of it is in your GI tract!  You will experience gas and bloating, diarrhea and constipation, skin problems like eczema and psoriasis, ear and sinus infections, and possibly even cancer down the road.  For all of these symptoms your doctor will prescribe more drugs which will further muck up your system.

Would you like to know how to avoid this situation?  Drink filtered water with no chlorine.  Get 7 hours sleep every night in a dark room.   Now that you're well hydrated and rested go exercise!  Eat to promote healthy bacteria and good digestion and absorption.  Lots of fruits and veggies in a side variety of colors.  Sometimes raw, sometimes lightly steamed. Check out cultured vegetables for great gut flora!   Stay away from the whites; flour, sugar.  Various animal proteins in moderation, meaning no Texas sized steaks.

New Parkinson's Treatment Hopeful For Motor Control

New Parkinson's Treatment Hopeful For Motor Control: "Chiropractic

Numerous chiropractic research has demonstrated that chiropractic treatments using upper cervical care can show improvement in symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

In one study of 37 patients with Parkinson's disease being treated for a period of five years with chiropractic care had shown 92% of improvement in patients.

According to Dr. Elster, D.C., from Boulder, Colorado, that vertebral subluxations that happen when the vertebrae becomes misaligned or becomes stuck and causes interference with the central nervous system (spinal cord and brain). By aligning the first two upper vertebrae with the skull, the nerve pathways which travel between the brain and spinal cord become less obstructed.

Do you like to cycle, play golf, or go bowling? Cyclists sometimes try to go to a bike fitter to get the best fit but they don't realize they're looking at things backwards. This needs to be addressed first and chances are the bike will fit better and the cyclist will have an easier and more pleasurable cycling experience.

Understanding the Stress Burden

Understanding the Stress Burden: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"

I cannot overemphasize the importance of this well written article. I see so many patients in my practice suffering with pain and physical injuries with no apparent physical cause. They are so used to being under constant stress they don't even know what's normal anymore. This stress takes a physical toll on all body systems, but the cure is a physical one. Some relief may be gained from spinal manipulation, acupuncture, and supplementation, but the main cure must come from stress modification.

There are different ways to do this.

*Sleep 7 hours per night in a dark room
*Take a few moments to breathe deeply and practice relaxation
*Don't let your devices rule your life. You don't always need to answer the phone. Turn it off and let voice mail do it's job! You can call back when it's convenient for you.
*Biofeedback is very useful
*Drink water! 2-3 L per day
*Inhale Ethiopian Frankincense oil while contacting your forehead with one hand and your pain point with the other. You may need someone else to lend a hand while you do this. It activates anti-depression and anti-anxiety pathways in the brain.
*Go hiking...mountains, beaches, anywhere you enjoy and can disconnect a bit. Again, turn the cell phone OFF!
*Once you're feeling better and more energetic exercise is great at reducing stress. A combination of aerobic and anaerobic is best, e.g. jogging and weight lifting.

Any other useful ideas are welcome here.

Now in the real world we are finding as doctors age they are subject to the same diseases we are. The caveat is that they are performing sometimes risky procedures on us when they themselves have lost cognitive and fine motor abilities. This makes for potentially dangerous situations and as admitted in this article there is currently no system in place in most hospitals to make sure this doesn't happen. Patients beware!

Sitting Too Much Tied to Health Risks

If your New Year's resolutions to get up off the couch and get moving are already starting to flag, here's some incentive: Two new studies say sitting too much can be bad for your health. In one, researchers followed more than 4,500 Scottish people over age 35 for an average of 4 years. Those who spent at least 4 hours a day sitting in front of the computer or TV were more than twice as likely to suffer a cardiovascular event and 52% more likely to die than those with less than 2 hours of screen time. A second study, rather than relying on self-reported data, actually used accelerometers on participants' hips to record active versus sedentary time. Among 4,757 adults, average age 46.5, longer sedentary time was associated with less-healthy measures of HDL cholesterol, insulin, insulin resistance, fasting triglycerides and C-reactive protein (a marker of inflammation linked to heart disease), as well as greater waist circumference. What can you do if your job, say, demands extended sitting time? Researchers found that periodically getting up and moving around for as little as a minute was linked to improvements in C-reactive protein scores and waist circumference. - Journal of the American College of Cardiology and European Heart Journal

Brain Re-training Shown to Reverse ADHD in 12 Weeks - NaturalNews.tv

Brain Re-training Shown to Reverse ADHD in 12 Weeks - NaturalNews.tv: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"

For people with ADHD, Autism, Asperger's, Dyslexia the Brain Balance program is the best option available today. Dr. Robert Mellilo's hemisphere based therapy demonstrates that there is not a problem of damage, but rather a functional disconnection. This means that some parts of the brain have lagged behind others in development.

These are not purely genetic disorders or damage. Brains of ADHD or Autistic children's brains do not demonstrate any clear cut pathology.

This information alone gives people hope and hope itself is a great tool towards healing.

That being the case a 12 week course of therapy can be instituted with the goal to develop the weak areas of the brain. In just 12 weeks, without drugs, over 80% of patients are able to drop their medications with their doctor's help.

82% of 60 children lost the ADHD diagnosis within 12 weeks. 60% of them had a 2 grade level jump and 35% f them jumped 4 grades. These were very compliant cases with parents and children doing a lot of the recommended therapies between center visits.

This is certainly very exciting news for a very difficult health topic, which until recently, seemed to have no answer and no end in sight. It proves the chiropractic vision that the body has the ability to heal itself and the brain and nervous system are the master controller of the entire body. By providing the brain with the boost it needs in some cases great results can be achieved. Normalization of function is always the goal with drugs or surgery.

Shattered Chromosome Can Lead to Cancer - NYTimes.com

Shattered Chromosome Can Lead to Cancer - NYTimes.com: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"

A new study says that cancer can arise from a chromosomal explosion. The chromosome than attempts to repair itself in a patched up and damaged way leading to a mutant unregulated cell. It is already known that many people will develop cancerous cells but the body will take care of these mutants and dispose of them. These people will never know that had anything cancerous in their bodies.

The best guess is that chromosomal explosions are caused by "a pulse of radiation". My question is radiation from where? The atmosphere? Cell phones? Microwaves? Scanners? All of the above? Or none of the above?

Chronic lack of sleep has been proven to burn out telomeres of chromosomes trying to replicate.

What about chronic stress? Or chronic lack of sleep, which is also a form of stress? What about the plethora of environmental toxins around today. The average baby is now born with over 200 toxins in it's bloodstream. Could these factors also be involved in the rise in cancer today?

The human body is designed to function in health. It is endowed with the ability to detoxify and handle many problems. Chromosomal explosions and cancer are indications that something is very wrong.

More than 3,000 survivors of the World Trade Center attacks experience long-term post-traumatic stress disorder

More than 3,000 survivors of the World Trade Center attacks experience long-term post-traumatic stress disorder: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"

My family and friends were in NY that day, although not at the WTC. The effects were felt all over NYC though for a long time. Both on 9/11 and the day after Brooklyn seemed to be under a snowfall, except the "snow" was burned papers and who knows what else that settled softly on every surface under a brown hazy sky.

One friend was on his way to work in the World Financial Center, intending to cut through the WTC on the way. The second plane whizzed in right over his head and then made it's fatal impact.

A patient of mine was a police officer and said what was happening on the ground was just as bad and not reported so much. People walking around dazed and half dead after having been engulfed by a fireball. People being sliced in half by falling glass windows.

As much as this attack is etched in all of our minds, so much more so on those who survived at the site. There is no way to erase the memory of what happened, but this is a good opportunity to discuss how to increase our ability to handle stress.

The WTC survivors deserve a special standing on being exposed to stress, but many of us in today's society seem to be exposed to stressors from many different sources.

One method that is helpful is to have a seat in a comfortable place. Place one hand over the forehead and simply sit in a relaxed position. Let your shoulders roll forward and relax. Close your eyes and take a long deep breathe. Think about what is causing your stress and then try to see yourself in the situation you would like to be in. Do this for a few minutes or as long as you need. If you want added benefit try inhaling Frankincense oil from Ethiopia while you do this. When the aroma reaches the olfactory bulb the brain produces powerful anti-stress/anxiety natural medications. You can find it in most any health food store. I get mine from an online company.

Jews are commanded to circumcise their sons on the eighth day of life. Amazing fact that blood clotting factors spike on precisely that day!

While scientific studies try to prove or disprove the benefits of circumcision the fact is that women with circumcised partners have a lower incidence of cervical cancer.

When it's a religious commandment it removes any of the doubt or debate and makes life much healthier and stress-free.
