There's no reason to scoff at cost containment in today's medical environment. However it should not be a lieu of quality care. It's unacceptable for a doctor not to return phone calls to a family member of a patient who is hospitalized. It's too bad the family doctors are not trained to fill this role. It sounds like their position is tenuous.
