Your shower head is a breeding ground for Mycobacterium avium, which is linked to pulmonary disease. People with compromised immune function or with pulmonary problems such as asthma and COPD should especially beware of this. It may be a good idea to change the shower heads every few months or rotate two of them, letting one soak in a chlorine solution to kill the bacteria. Make sure to rinse the chlorine thoroughly before reinstalling.
