Why mercury is more dangerous in oceans: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"
This finally answers a question people ask all the time about the dangers of eating fish. Is is safe to eat fish if there is a suspicion of mercury in the water?
Here is the article broken down for you. Freshwater contains higher levels of mercury than seawater. But the mercury in freshwater is also less toxic since it more readily undergoes chemical conversion to a safer form of mercury. The mercury in seawater is in a lower concentration but it remains more toxic because it bonds to the salt in the water and remains in it's more dangerous form.
Therefore marine fish like tuna, mackerel and shark, are generally more laden with toxic mercury than are freshwater fish and are more dangerous to eat.
There is still a theory that the mercury in large ocean fish is bound tightly to the proteins and will therefore not be bio-available to the person eating it, thus making it safer to eat.
When eating large marine fish proceed with question. Even though they are inherently healthy they come with their share of toxins. This brings be back to my big point. Everyone of us must make detoxing a priority in this day and age.

Facebook | The Integrative Health Center: Trust Your Doctor
Facebook | The Integrative Health Center: Trust Your Doctor: "You pick a Doctor, and trust him or her, precisely because you have not gone to medical school. And if you indeed do not trust your Doctor, or think you know better , do yourself and the Dr. a favor--go away, and find another Doctor.
Because if you do not trust him , if you think he is not knowledgeable enough , or that he has an agenda (such as money or kavod)--well , as Moshe Rabeinu put it—“Ribbono shel Olom: This won't work.” Because you will find 101 things to complain about , nothing he does will satisfy you , you will kvetch and complain about how he treats you--because you are missing the basic element of trust. You don't trust him.
By Rabbi Chaim Malinowitz - with permission from the ‘Chadash’ Beit Shemesh Weekly
Yes, maybe he has to earn your trust--that's ok. And yes, he should allow you to ask questions , and he should answer your questions as best as he can , and explain as much as he can. And yes --very
important-- part of trust is that you trust him to admit when he doesn't know something ,and will consult with a more expert doctor and find out the answer for you. But certainly expect that at some
point , he's going to turn to you and say--Sir, Madam, I went to medical school, spent years and tears (EDITOR---THIS IS NOT A TYPO!!) studying and interning--trust me , or , find a Doctor whom you will
trust.
And when you find a Doctor whom you trust--you will trust him with all your medical issues.You will ask him which is surgeons you can trust , which pharmacy you should use---all your medical questions
will go to him.He will answer you,or he will refer you to someone who knows the answer.You are secure-you trust him. And if you don't---it won't work, just go away. The foundation of the relationship must be one of trust.
And why have medical referral services sprouted? Because the world of medicine has grown by leaps and bounds, there are specialists for just about every limb and every illness imaginable ; we intuit that our doctor can't keep up with all that knowledge , and the reality is also that trust between patient and Doctor has broken down (thanks to the world of medical insurance), and most people have never had the experience of a true 'family Doctor' who knows them, they know him, and they simply trust him.

The chiropractor is the doctor of the past and the future, the one who takes the time to listen, and explains what might be the problem. That future is now.

Thought you were being healthy by avoiding meat and eating lots of soy? Think again! This article is an eye-opener. Most soy is processed with an industrial explosive chemical called hexane. Read the full article for more info. If you don't have time to read the full article at least know to look for the green USDA Organic seal on the package.
Even if soy were not processed with hexane too much soy has an estrogenizing effect, making theone who eats it more feminine. This means that girls may develop early puberty, boys and men may develop feminine characteristics, and latent cancers may be encouraged to grow out of control.
If you're concerned see a functional nutritionist for an evaluation and dietary recommendations. It's not simple these days.

Just like cortisol and other hormones have a normal cycle, so does insulin. With cortisol testing we now take four samples over the course of the day and compare the results to the normal curve. From this information the doctor can prescribe the correct nutrients to normalize function at the precise time of day the body needs it.
The standard method of testing is with a single blood test after a 12 hour fast. That's OK but limited. That's like taking a snapshot. It's static. Hormonal cycles are dynamic. The four sample test is also dynamic and gives a far more accurate picture of what really is going on.
Perhaps the same can now be done with insulin.

Why Chiropractic & Why The Integrative Health Center
You have many health care options. First of course is the care provided by the excellent doctors at the various Kupot Cholim. After that it becomes a blur for many. There are many alternative therapies, all of which are provided by some very talented and caring people who deliver effective care.
In most people's minds the medical doctor is thought of as "the doctor", the one with the highest level of education, and they have certainly earned that reputation.
What about the chiropractor? He also uses the title doctor as conferred by his degree. Is the chiropractor a "real" doctor? Take a look at this link
from my website comparing medical school to chiropractic school:
http://drrosenberg.net/ ChiropracticLicensureandEduati on.aspx
As you can see chiropractic education is very similar to medical education. Each has a different emphasis. MDs get more training in pharmacology, immunology, general surgery, pathology, and other areas specific to the care they provide. DCs get more training in anatomy, physiology, neurology, and orthopedics.
Chiropractic is no longer "alternative" care. It is complementary care.
The chiropractor is the one most like your MD in level of education! He is highly educated and qualified to be on your health care team as an expert in spinal hygiene, posture & ergonomics, neuromusculoskeletal problems, injuries due to sports or accidents, and nutritional issues.
Why The Integrative Health Center? Top 10 reasons:
*Advanced post grad training in neurology and nutrition
*Offering a wide variety of modalities
*Regular spinal manipulation & gentle techniques
*Treat the person and not the problem!
*10 years experience
*Worked with many MDs and can communicate with your doctor
*Reasonably priced expert level service
*Gives you the time you need
*What I do is fun!
*Bottom line: Great results! Ask my patients! http://drrosenberg.net/whatourpatientssay.aspx
Be well & be healthy!

Overtreating earliest cancers — but which ones? - Yahoo! News: "specialists say more tumors actually are being found too early.
"...specialists say more tumors actually are being found too early."
How can a tumor be found "too early"? Wouldn't you want to know about it as soon as possible?
Many people develop some cancerous cells throughout their lives at some point and never know about it. The immune system does its job. If early detection reveals cancer, all the better. Appropriate treatment can be started including lifestyle changes and nutritional advice. A measurement of salivary pH is a must and will almost certainly reveal a very high acid/low pH level. Cancers love this acidity and they help create it. A detox program is a must!
Early detection is the best detection!

Middle-Aged Men Lose Testosterone and Sleep
Middle-Aged Men Lose Testosterone and Sleep: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"
There is a whole neuro-endocrine circuit at work here. Natural aging decreases testosterone. But when we pile on stress and unhealthy habits the problem is compounded exponentially. Testosterone levels can be normalized and even enhanced with natural nutritional methods. Stress management and sleep hygiene must be enforced to normalize the body clock.
Middle aged men who have spent years being sleep deprived and over stressed will begin to experience decrease of muscle mass, increase of fat especially around the middle, an increase in pains, decreased brain function, increased risk of diabetes and heart disease, and increase in blood pressure, and decreased libido and ability to perform sexually. Not a pretty picture. They present to my office usually when they hit a wall and cannot function any more.
All of this is not normal aging! It is the body breaking down after years of abuse. It DOES NOT have to be this way. My suggestions:
7 hours sleep in a dark room
Bedroom should be only for sleeping and sex, no eating!
No eating withing 2 hours of bed
Drink 64-80 oz/2-3 L of water every day, this excludes any other drinks
No diet anything foods or drinks with artificial sweeteners
Eat your fruits & veggies! Lean protein OK, reduce or eliminate simple carbs....white flour & sugar
Get at least a multi-vitamin for your nutritional deficiencies
There's more but this is a good start!
Get an endocrine panel done...brain chemicals, testosterone, cortisol, thyroid, etc.
Get a checkup every year!
Once you establish the state of your internal health you can begin to take specific measure to improve and correct the situation! Are you really living? Or are those little nagging things becoming more frequent? Listen to them and do something about it!
My office offers help in these areas!

Depressed Mood Increases The Perception Of Pain
Depressed Mood Increases The Perception Of Pain: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"
Oh wow, this is really fascinating! Researchers have linked depressed moods with an increased perception of pain in the body. I've been working with a combination of techniques that verify this and work very powerfully to decrease pain and negative moods and emotions. Patients can see and feel the results right away, even during the treatment itself. So much of body pain is induced by stress and negative emotions. Of course we have always known of the mind body connection, but now we have a little more evidence.
One patient came in with his neck flexed forward and completely stuck. He was unable to move a drop in any direction. He was in fear as well, and understandably so.
I quickly realized that I would be unable to give him a neck adjustment so I laid him down on his belly and did some gentle stretches. When I finished he was actually worse and fighting back tears. I considered sending him to the ER.
I decided to try this new approach for the first time. Earlier I established with him that he had no particular stress in his life. Happy marriage, great kids, and his own business in the creative arts which he enjoyed.
I got to work and started asking him about past experiences. It turns out that as a soldier he had to kill two people about to perpetrate a terrorist attack on a beach. This was some 2o years ago. When this was revealed I had him contact the emotional point on his forehead and his neck at the same time. While he was doing this I held a bottle of oil of Frankincense/Levonah/Boswellia under his nose as he inhaled deeply.
When Frankincense is inhaled it hits the olfactory bulb of the brain and triggers the brain to produce powerful anti-anxiety/depression medications. Natural medications with no side effects!
In two treatments this person's pain and stiffness completely disappeared. I was as shocked as he was and almost as happy. All of this was done without a chiropractic adjustment. Now he comes in for regular adjustments to maintain his status.

66 Million Deadly Medication Mistakes
Medicine - Jones & Bartlett Learning: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"
Do you take medications? Probably so.
Listen to this. Last year there were "more than 66 million drug mistakes a year. Of those, about 325,000 are wrong-drug errors serious enough to cause potential harm to patients, including long-lasting injury or death. That equates to at least 1 death per day due to a medication error."
Be very careful. It's better in most cases to consider natural medicine first. That doesn't mean to the exclusion of a visit to the family doctor, but when he wants to put you on a medication it might be best to ask about alternatives such as diet, exercise, and other lifestyle modifications.
Consider acupuncture, nutrition, and chiropractic. These days it helps to have a team of healthcare providers. Don't exclude the M.D., just start thinking about including natural medicine in your healthcare arsenal.

Resistance Training Improves Flexibility, Too: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"
Flexibility is an extremely important component of health. How many of us can bend and touch our toes? Or raise our leg straight up when lying on our backs?
Many of us sit all day, and in an ergonomically incorrect fashion. This tightens the hamstrings, draws in the shoulders, and causes the head to move forward all leading to increased postural deformities. Canadian scientist Hans Selye said, "Postural deformities are the beginning of the disease process." We need to take this seriously guys!

This is an interesting study in that in seems to contradict everything we know about caffeine. If accurate this study would seem to indicate that the mind-body connection is even stronger than we thought. If you think you're getting coffee then that's as good as getting coffee. If we were only more aware of the power of our own minds and bodies we could become much healthier just by thinking about it.

Adrenal Recovery Soup Recipe
In today's world people are facing a multi-pronged stress attack, taxing the adrenal glands. Many people just feel burned out. Tired when they wake and they catch a second wind sometime after dinner, but exhausted so much of the time they don't know what normal energy should feel like anymore.
The adrenal glands are two small glands that sit on top of the kidneys. One of their most important jobs is to help you respond to stress. Some stress, in fact is normal and healthy. Most people however are under stress from many sources; poor dietary habits, dehydration, lack of sufficient sleep, environmental pollution, personal issues, job related stress, etc.
Here is a soup recipe that does its part to help restore adrenal function. Enjoy!
A vegetable soup recipe that has proven helpful in restoring adrenal function. This high energy soup called “Taz” comes from Dolores S. Downey’s “Balancing Body Chemistry with Nutrition” seminars.
* 16 oz green beans
* 1cup chopped celery
* 1 zucchini, sliced
* 1 medium onion, chopped
* 1 cup tomato juice
* 1 cup spring water
* 2 Tbsp raw honey
* 1 tsp paprika
* 1 cup chicken broth
* pepper to taste
Combine ingredients and simmer for one hour until vegetables are tender.

In the interest of balanced reporting here is a pro-vaccine study. My question is why state there are no benefits to delaying vaccinations. Why not discuss the pros and cons and getting the shots vs. not getting them?
"A new study, though, finds no benefit to a child's development in delaying vaccines, and doctors warn that waiting can expose kids to possible disease."
A kid with a strong immune system will handle the exposure to disease well and after that they will have immunity. Exposure could be the best vaccine of all.

There's no reason to scoff at cost containment in today's medical environment. However it should not be a lieu of quality care. It's unacceptable for a doctor not to return phone calls to a family member of a patient who is hospitalized. It's too bad the family doctors are not trained to fill this role. It sounds like their position is tenuous.

It was a POWER OF CHIROPRACTIC day today! This morning my neighbor brought her 1.5 year old son to me. Suddenly this morning he was unable to walk. Not that he didn't want to, he could not! Mom was petrified. I adjusted C0, C1, & C2, then his lower back. 10 minutes later he was running around again. He's happy, ...mom's grateful and stunned! I LOVE what I do!!!!

There's a lot of controversy when the topic is milk. Is it only meant for cows? Is it a health drink packed with vitamins and hormones or is it a phlegm producer? Does it help the bones grow or does it cause unwanted hormonal changes? Even if it is good has it been adulterated so much that it's now unhealthy? Cows get injected with growth hormones eat grain based diets instead of their natural grass and plant based diets. Farmers even put ground up animals and fecal in the feed. Think Mad Cow disease! Here's a good link for some of the high points in the for and against argument. If you're really against milk no matter what you can check out www.notmilk.com

An 88 year old woman ate 2-3 pounds of the vegetable bok choy every day for several months and was admitted to the hospital nearly comatose "unable to walk or swallow and barely able to breathe." She thought it would help her diabetic condition but as it turns out bok choy inhibits thyroid function and she already had and underactive thyroid. The thyroid is a master gland and it's function is critical to much of the body.
The take home of this story is that:
1) food and nutrients have a powerful effect on the body.
2)everything in moderation
3)check with a doctor before reading something and putting yourself on a program
How does anyone eat 3 pounds of veggies a day, much less an 88 year old woman? Was she eating anything else??

If you find that you're very deficient you may need to get a good supplement. Biotics Labs makes excellent Vitamin D drops.

People have such a hard time understanding that chiropractic care itself does not cure anything. The body provides the cure. When there is full transmission between the brain, spine, and end organs there is optimal health. Sometimes there is blockage between the brain and end organs and when that happens there is dysfunction and eventually disease. Chiropractic care simply removes that blockage and the body then knows what to do.
From BJ Palmer, the son of chiropractic's founder: " We release the prisioned impulse, the tiny rivulet of force that emanates from the mind and flows over the nerves to the cell and stirs them into life."

This test was not large enough to be conclusive. The children who were not affected either way by the diet should be tested for mercury and aluminum toxins. There is another good lab test for autistic kids which measures brain neurotransmitter levels. Often these chemicals are out of balance, either too high or low, and can be corrected with a dietary and nutritional program.
There are also brain exercises which can increase brain pathways and boost natural production of neurotransmitters.

Why Doctors Hate Chiropractors
Why Doctors Hate Chiropractors: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"
I've worked in harmony with many medical doctors. There is still much misinformation in the medial field about chiropractic and how it helps people. I don't like the back pain box because I know what I do does more than that. Chiropractors need to be thoroughly versed in neurology because that in fact is what chiropractic is. And they need to be able to explain what they do in medical terms if they want medical referrals. Research has improved vastly in the last 10 years but lags very much behind. This is the key to mutual cooperation. I also believe that the younger MDs are more willing to go CAM than their older counterparts.
Most doctors don't hate chiropractors. First they don't know what it is. Secondly they don't know any chiropractors to refer to. The time is ripe for education! The patients are tired of pills and surgery. They're tired of being told "you just have to live with it" or "no one really knows why you're in pain". We have the answers and the world needs to know.

Why are your kids acting up? Why can't they sit still and focus? Why can't they learn? It may not be their fault.
Their sensitive and rapidly developing nervous systems are under assault from environmental toxins such as pesticides. These organophosphates are designed to kill bugs by disrupting their nervous systems. When they're sprayed they reach the food, the soil and even the water. Eventually the animals we eat are also loaded with these poisons. So they're involved at every level of the food chain.
Everyone must adapt measures to detoxify on a regular basis. The body has several ways in which it naturally detoxes. First is the liver with two phases. It's kind of like moving day. Phase One boxes up the garbage and in Phase Two the moving men come and load the boxes on the truck to be transported away. If either or both of these phases is not working the liver and the body will be overburdened. It's easy to assess this problem with the right lab test. From there diet and nutrients can be prescribed to facilitate detox "moving day".
Next is the digestive system. Is overeating a problem? Is overload of junk food including natural and artificial sweeteners a problem? Is there gas, constipation, loose bowels, or incomplete evacuation? Is urine dark and does it smell bad? These are major problems! But they can be fixed with some changes to diet and lifestyle. Keep in mind that the GI tract is home to 80% of the immune system! Toxins will break down the ability of the GI tract to function properly.
Emotional stress can impact the GI system very quickly. In this scenario there are connections from stress and emotions to the GI tract to the immune system to the nervous system and soon to the whole body.
There's much more to discuss. The bottom line is that everyone of us is in the line of fire from environmental toxins to the degree that they can affect our physiology and behavior. The good new is there are defensive and corrective measure which can be taken. The trick is finding a well trained doctor/coach to guide you through the process to better health.

Canned Food May Expose People to BPA
BPA is a chemical which mimics sex hormones and can disrupt the neuro-endocrine system. That can cause "cancers, early puberty, and developmental problems". It can also cause women to be more male-like and males to become feminized.
It gets more and more difficult today to avoid environmental toxins. This makes it necessary to incorporate a detoxification program as part of your regular regimen.

The immune system works on memory. Foreign invaders are identified, dispatched, and memorized for future cases. The immune system doesn't forget. If vaccines are designed to stimulate the immune system into an immune response then how could it be that a booster would be needed? Maybe it never worked in the first place? Or maybe the drug companies need to increase sales?

How to Save Your Skin
Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.*
Specific compounds found in broccoli sprouts were found in experimental mice to decrease the damage caused by UV radiation to skin thus decreasing the likely hood of developing skin cancer. Skin tumors that did develop on some of the mice were up to 70% smaller than those that developed on the mice that were not fed the broccoli compounds.
Cruciferous vegetables, like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts, contain high levels of the active plant chemicals known as glucosinolates. These are metabolized by the body into isothiocyanates, which are known to be powerful anti-carcinogens. The main isothiocyanate from broccoli is sulphoraphane.

Biological link between stress, anxiety and depression identified
Through chemical signals in the brain stress can lead to anxiety and depression. We are all faced with stress and some of can actually be good for us. Today, however, we have stress from just too many angles. Poor diet and sleep habits, overuse of electronics and exposure to electromagnetic fields, lack of economic and societal stability, environmental pollution affecting everything we eat, breathe, and drink, and....and....and....You can probably add a whole lot to this list. The key is to modify our ability to handle the stress. An already stressed system exposed to more chronic stress will, without a doubt, succumb given enough time.
This study shows on a biological level how stress turns into anxiety and depression. We want to head off the anxiety and depression and need for meds and therapy. The first key is to decide what's really worth stressing about. Then it's very important to test your cortisol and other hormones and neurotransmitters to find out how your body is handling all this stress. Usually it's not so good. When this information is gathered you can be put on a nutritional program which will boost your ability to handle stress.
Next it's really important to determine your ability to detoxify and choose appropriate nutrients and diet. A prescription of 7 hours sleep a night is mandatory in order to restore your sleep wake hormones which have been depleted due to bad habits.
Water is the next key to helping your brain and body. So many people are simply dehydrated, both from lack of water intake combined with excess consumption of caffeinated beverages which act as diuretics.
After all this is accomplished a plan of excercise can be drawn up to build cardio vascular integrity and restore lost muscle mass. Along the way this will also help normalize blood sugar, reduce fat, strengthen the heart and other inner organs, and drastically reduce the chances of all the major diseases.
Best of all you'll feel good and enjoy life! Why not?

Sit still, Lose Muscle
Loss of muscle begins in the 30s as Testosterone and Growth Hormone begin to decrease. Muscle loss also occurs due to inactivity and disease. Some people face this triple whammy and by the time the reach their 50s or 60s they are already in severe physical decline. The good news is that this trend can be reversed at any age at least to some degree. Sedentary geriatrics in nursing home have been given a weight lifting program with light hand weights and have shown marked improvement in muscle mass and strength in just a short period of time. The right nutrients can also add to the effects. Certain amino acids will help build muscle by releasing the natural Growth Hormone which is stored in the brain.

The Fallacy of Health Foundation Searches for Medical Cures
I don't agree with everything he says, but I've always thought that these huge health foundations will never find a cure and put themselves and everyone around them out of business. Disease is huge business! Educate yourself and take control of your own health. Don't expect health to miraculously come to you from doctors and pills!

Cancer Linked to Other Chronic Illnesses
This is not surprising to integrative practitioners. Why? Because it's all about inflammation and a high degree of acidity. The body is on fire. This is the common source of all these diseases. Detoxification is critical to increase salivary pH to 7.0 and to decrease systemic inflammation. Other good practices towards this goal are to drink 2-3 liters of water per day with cut up lemon and orange slices, sleep 7 hours in a dark room, exercise, and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as part of an anti-inflammatory diet. Learning how to handle stress is also very important. Frankincense from Ethiopia is a very powerful anti-anxiety and depression medication when inhaled. Get the oil and put some on your forehead and neck. You can even put it on your pillow at night.

Words Really Do Hurt
In this study scientists discovered that words associated with pain and difficulty activated pain centers in the brain. I would bet that the opposite is also true. We can change a lot in our own lives by avoiding negative speech and making a concerted effort to only use positive thoughts and speech. It really makes a difference!

Dark Chocolate May Improve Metabolic Stress Response Say Nestlé Researchers
Dark chocolate to the stress rescue! What could be better news? Dark chocolate actually reduces elevated cortisol levels. Cortisol is also known as adrenaline and is elevated in response to stress and anxiety. When the stress is chronic cortisol levels can be high for so long that they become depleted as the adrenal glands can longer produce it. If the stress is still there this can be a dangerous situation.
In these cases we need to give the adrenal glands the nutrients they crave in order to function properly in response to stress. Dark chocolate, green tea, and dry red wine fit the bill! Make these items part of your daily diet.

Vegetable Juice Aided In Dietary Support For Weight Loss And Lower Blood Pressure
In this study V8 vegetable juice was used to help subject lower blood pressure. V8 has a problem in that it's loaded with sodium which is known to raise blood pressure.
A better solution is to buy a VitaMix machine. This is not a juicer. Juicers separate the valuable pulp from the juice. The VitaMix purees the entire vegetable. In this way you get whole vegetables and fruits for the health benefits and you need much less produce when compared to a standard juicer. That saves you money.

Magnets Can Alter Moral Judgement By Changing Brain Activity
I use a 5,000 Gauss magnet as part of my treatment and patients often ask what it does. They often don't feel anything. Here is an example of how powerful the effects of magnetic therapy can be. In this study the application of a magnetic field was able to affect the moral decision making of the subjects in the study.
